Jacob's update!

Today was our last cymo treatment. We had to make sure everything was dead before surgary. I know you all know what I’m saying.
The Plan.
We will take the buster shots next week in an attempt to raise our blood count to reasonable levels before the work is done.

Not even a tooth ach.

This is for my son Jacob. He is 22 years old and is the kindest gentelest person I have ever known. Of couse I am his Dad. Jacob is MR and is very high functioning. He knew something was wrong but didn’t really understand what was going to happen to him until we got to the hospital for our first surery. He lost his left nut.(I can’t spell testicale)
We were scared put of our minds. My wife was devestated and so was I. We cryed together for days after we got the frightning news that Jacob had cancer.

We went through three rounds of cymo and had another catscan and waited. We were very optamistic but we knew in back of our minds that he could still need additional cymo before the final surgery. The constent reminder of the cancer is poor Jacob. No hair at all. Not even fuzz on his head.
He is very brave. I can’t help cryen when I look at him pluged into that toxic mix that is ment to save him. He is so weak. He so thin now, he didn’t have any weight to loose but he lost some anyway. All the while he is upbeat and has that determined tone in his voice “I’m OK” he tells me.
We have three other children, God blessed us with four, two boys and two beautiful girls. This has brought the kids all closer than they ever were before. The Oldest daughter is taking it the worst. She has her own kids and husband but Jacob is still her brother. She shakes and crys almost uncontrolably at time when she sees what the cymo has done to him. the other two are in High School and the son plays football and the daughter is in the band so they are busy. They always help Jacob when he wakes up at nite sick or when he’s hungry.(thank God)
The one thing that has help Jacob more than anything is the love of his family. That is what is maken him well. The cymo may be killen the cancer but we are maken him well. I hope everyone who reads this understands how important it is to show love ever chance you get.

Keith – Thanks for your post. I like that you made a note about how important it is to tell our children we love them every day. I sometimes forget how important people are until I read these journal entries. Take care!

Keith, my prayers are with you and your family. Hopefully they caught it early and hadn’t metastasized elsewhere. I know it’s a hard time right now but don’t let fear get the best of you. Be steadfast in your faith and believe fervently that Jacob will make it. Hugs and prayers…Grace

I empathasize with your fears. I am a 6th mth. survivor. Learn as much as you can about this desease, knowledge is power. ditto on the Lance Armstrong weg site. I asked questions to them and they got right back to me and even called me. I will keep you and your family in my prayers. One day at a time.
